![]() If you consider that the headset has a suggested retail price of € 169.99, I actually think the product is rubbish. The observant ear will be very disturbed by this. You won’t notice this with a lot of noise, but this is quickly noticeable during quiet moments or when content has to be loaded. For example, you will hear a light signal beep in the background in the left earcup while using this headset. But there are more criticisms that do not benefit the headset. Although it is quite clear and you can get ahead with it, there is actually too much of it. It’s hard to say which is really preferable, but for comfort the 7.1 mode seems to be an added value. The sound also seems to be somewhat inconsistent in 7.1, where the higher tones are also somewhat lower, resulting in high peaks that are now a thing of the past. The same goes for the bass which has become a lot more prominent and can actually take over a bit too much at times. ![]() Where the midtones still sounded clean and neutral, they are lower at 7.1. It broadens the soundstage considerably and that is certainly not an unnecessary luxury with this headset. It’s actually way too close to your ears, but luckily we have the 7.1 mode of course. We can be very brief about the spatiality: that is not good. These high peaks are very noticeable and make the otherwise very comfortable sound sharper than necessary. It is only a pity that the highest tones can be very shrill. The higher tones are also very pure in this one, just like the midtones, so you have a nice and clear presentation of the sound in the 2.0 mode. The bass is a bit less prominent, but knows how to bring the punch at the right moments. How does the headset sound in normal operation? To begin with, the HyperX Cloud II Wireless has very balanced mids that are beautifully clean. With a simple press of the button (holding it switches the headset on or off) you can put the headset in a 2.0 position or use the 7.1 virtual surround output. With the power button you can switch between two modes at any time. Unfortunately, there is no option to control your game/voice chat with a dedicated button while gaming via the headset. On the right earcup you can adjust the volume with a scroll wheel. On the front of the left earcup you have a mini-jack connection where you can connect the microphone, if you want to communicate with people online. Because it is a wireless headset, a USB-A dongle is also included. At the bottom of the earcup you have the USB-C input where you can charge the headset via the supplied USB-C cable. On the left earcup you have the power button with the mute button below it. The earcups have leather cushions, which are nice and soft and also sit comfortably around your ears. On the earcups you have the red HyperX logo on both sides, so that you can no longer be confused about which brand this headset is. The earcups are attached to the headband by means of a red metal construction, which provides a nice contrast to the rest of the black design. What else doesn’t necessarily make the look better are the cables that come out of the earcups and go back in at the headband. The HyperX logo is engraved large on the top of the headband and together with the stitch finishes this headband looks very busy. Although I am a fan of this type of finish, this one misses the mark. The headband of the headset is covered with (fake) leather and has red stitching at the edges. This Wireless edition is actually not much different. The HyperX Cloud II has a striking design that most gamers will recognize. How does this headset come into its own and can it stand with its head held high next to its wired brother? Or will we stumble over the price or other aspects? Iconic design The HyperX Cloud II Wireless is now at our disposal and we will look at it from top to bottom. The HyperX Cloud II is a very popular headset and it is therefore not surprising that it is getting a new version. This time we get an old headset in a new shape. ![]() For example, not so long ago we reviewed the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Wireless headset and we were quite positive about it.
